McALESTER —
Pittsburg County Sheriff Joel Kerns and his deputies were hauling stolen goods in by the trailer-load Friday.
“This is our sixth load,” Kerns said as he stood by one of the trailers filled with some of the recovered items.
Deputies now faced the huge task of inventorying the goods, which ranged from trailers and grillers, to all-terrain-vehicles and guns.
Kerns said he had been pursuing an investigation into many of the stolen materials when matters came to a head Thursday.
A property owner who rents house trailers to workers at gas well sites checked on a site where had some trailers parked between Crowder and Canadian and saw two individuals loading a truck with things such as washers and dryers taken from the trailers, according to Kerns.
The two sped away in a pick-up with the property owner in pursuit, the sheriff said.
Eventually, the driver “ran the truck up in the woods” and the two individuals ran away, according to the sheriff.
Summoned to the scene, sheriff’s deputies impounded the abandoned vehicle and were able to learn who had been driving it, Kerns said.
Pursuing some leads, investigators found their way to Bristow Point on Friday, where they uncovered a cache of stolen items, according to the sheriff.
The sheriff and his deputies spent most of the rest of the day loading up materials believed to be stolen, transporting the goods to the sheriff’s department and starting the process of sorting through it all.
“It’s from all over the place,” Kerns said of the stolen goods.
