McALESTER —
The boil order for Hughes County Rural Water District No. 2 remains in effect today, with the water district holding an emergency meeting Tuesday to discuss state violations.
Among those present at the session were state Sen. Richard Lerblance, D-Hartshorne; District 17 state Rep. Brian Renegar, D-Blanco, and District 18 state Rep. Donnie Condit, D-McAlester.
The water district held the meeting to discuss how it will comply with a state Department of Environmental Quality action for water district violations. Monday is the deadline for compliance with the DEQ order.
Water district customers have reported water outages of up to 30 days, in addition to state orders that the water is unfit for consumption, bathing infants or washing dishes. At least one restaurant in Stuart has closed due to the order.
