A Wild Color Stampede to come through town on Saturday

McALESTER —

McAlester’s first Wild Color Stampede is set for Saturday at 10 a.m.
The entry fee is $45 and participants can sign up until 9:45 a.m. on race day at Studio 23 at 23 East Choctaw Avenue, according to Pam Kirby event organizer.
Race day registration and check in begins at 9:00 a.m. The race begins at 10 a.m. at Studio 23 Photography,
The 5k Run/Walk/Roll/Stroll will start in downtown McAlester and end in Old Town just in time for the Wild West celebration.
“It’s McAlester's most colorful run ever,” Kirby said.
She said throughout the race there will be ‘Color Zones’ where participants will be dowsed with colored powder.
“ By the end of the race you will be a colorful as a rainbow.” Kirby said.
She said the day doesn’t end when the stampede does.
“Plan to stay in Old Town the rest of the day and enjoy the food, fun, and festivities and a slow moving ‘hay ride’ will transport participants to and from Old Town to downtown throughout the day,” Kirby said.
According to the stampede’s website, the ‘color dust’ is made of cornstarch and food coloring and will stain clothes and skin.
Parking is available downtown, the Farmers Market, Chadick Park, and at Third Street and Comanche Ave.
Kirby said proceeds from the stampede will benefit local charities such as  Hope House, Shared Blessings, Oklahoma Project Woman and McAlester Main Street.
For more information or to register visit at Studio 23 or online at www.signmeup.com/86255.
