McAlester Archeological Society to hold ‘Road Show’

The McAlester Archeological Society will meet on Feb. 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Krebs City Hall.

This month’s meeting will be an archaeological road show, conducted by Dr. Scott W. Hammerstedt, PhD.D. Those planning to attending are encouraged to bring any artifacts they have collected and he will attempt to identify their age, what they are made of and what they were used for.

Dr. Hammerstedt is one of the two newest archaeologists working with the Oklahoma Anthropological Society and Oklahoma State University, Norman. He came to Oklahoma from the Alabama Archaeology program. Dr. Hammerstedt is the archaeologist assigned to Northeastern Oklahoma.

The chapter will also hold a drawing for a hand made quilt. To purchase a ticket for the drawing contact any of the members of the chapter. The quilt will fit a twin or regular size bed.

The proceeds from sale of tickets will go toward expenses of the annual Echoes of the Past which will be held the first Saturday in April at Echo Ridge, Arrowhead State Park in Canadian.
