Pittsburg County commissioners preside over a trio of meetings

Three meetings were held in less than two hours Monday at the Pittsburg County Commissioners office at 600 E. Choctaw Ave.

First, the commissioners held their regular weekly meeting.

Commissioner Gene Rogers chaired the meeting as Chairman Kevin Smith was absent. Commissioner Donald Mathis was also in attendance.

Rogers and Mathis approved three interlocal agreements — two involved fill material donated to the county, the other for shale donated to the county.

A road closing in District 2 was approved as was a road crossing permit in Disrict 1.

Tenaska Operations made a request for a utility easement for a Kiowa Power Partners water line in District 2. It was approved.

Pittsburg County Emergency Management Director Trent Myers spoke briefly about certification for the county in incident management.

Also, a resolution declaring Bucks of Gaines Creek a golf cart community was approved. That allows residents to drive golf carts on the roads in the community. Speed limits in the area were limited to 25 miles per hour.

It is the second time commissioners have given the OK for golf carts: Rock Creek Cove and Rock Creek Heights were designated as golf cart communities with a similar 25 mph speed limit.

A Caterpillar motor grader was approved for a lease purchase agreement for District 1 with a payment of about $1,600 a month as part of the agreement.

The second meeting was a special Pittsburg County Tax Roll Correction Board conclave. Rogers conducted the meeting with Pittsburg County Assessor Jim Kelley.

About 30 items to approve or disapprove complaints of erroneous assessments and petitions for correction were on the agenda. A motion to approve passed 2-0 as the meeting was quickly concluded.

There was a third meeting for the Pittsburg County Economic Development Authority.

Two requisition certificates were approved for a company doing work on the courthouse and jail projects.

An expenditure of almost $500,000 was approved in two requisition certificates for Atlas General Contractors, LLC.

Use of the requisition certificates is the standard way the county makes periodic payments to businesses working on the voter-approved and county sales tax funded projects.

As work progresses and payments are requested, commissioners, in their role as trustees of the authority, approve payment for the projects.
