Holy Week Salad Luncheon slated for March 28

McALESTER — The 41st Annual Women's Holy Week Salad Luncheon is set for March 28, Maundy Thursday. Last year more than 300 woman attended the luncheon and organizers say they are expecting about the same number to attend this year.

To plan the luncheon several ladies from six area churches gathered on Thursday at First Baptist Church McAlester and announced the details.

Churches partcipating in the event are First Baptist, First Christian, First United Methodist, All Saints Episcopal, St. John the Evangelist Catholic and First Presbyterian.

On Thursday details of the luncheon were announced by the organizers.

The year First Baptist Church is the host church and is represented by Sue Parham, Carol Durant and Helen Lenardo.

The First Baptist organizers have chosen Glenette Russell as Mistress of Ceremonies. She is the wife of Pastor Tim Russell of the First Baptist Church.

The guest speaker will be McAlester native Kaye Edwards Sheilds, who will also provide the music for the event. The speaker was organized by Dot Thompson, Marsha Green and Sally Judge, representatives of the First Presbyterian Church.

The music was planned by All Saint’s representatives Chris Thurber and Karen Kincaid.

And, the decorations for the event will be coordinated by First United Methodist Church representatives Janis Allford and Kim Thornton.

And, this year ladies will need to know the following information;

— All ladies are welcome to attend the luncheon at 11:30 a.m. at the Scottish Rite Masonic Temple on Second and Adams.

— There is no charge for the luncheon.

— Ladies who do not work outside the home are asked to bring a large salad and plan to arrive by 11:15  with their salad.

— The dish should have their name on it so that it can be returned.

— Serving utensils will be provided.

— Ladies working outside the home should plan to arrive at 11:30.
