McALESTER —
Numerous McAlester-area businesses have been burglarized recently. “There have been a bunch of late night burglaries this past week,” said McAlester Police Det. Capt. Gary Wansick. “They’ve been occurring between 1 a.m. to about 4:30 a.m.”
Early Monday morning, at about 1 a.m., the PB Liquor in North Main Street was hit, Wansick said, and the cash register, with the money inside, was stolen.
Prior to that burglary, Wansick said the Brangus restaurant on South George Nigh Expressway was hit and the cash register, with money inside, was taken. Also at that time, the glass window at Marilyn’s restaurant, next to the Brangus, was shattered.
Other local night-time business burglaries have also recently occurred. A business called Airgas was burglarized early Thursday morning, and the thieves took two welders and two plasma cutters, Wansick said. And the Tobacco Hut was hit and numerous cartons of cigarettes were stolen, Wansick said. When asked how many cartons were taken, Wansick replied, “Approximately 70.”
Wansick said that McAlester police are requesting the public to contact them with any information regarding these recent string of burglaries. “If they have any information regarding these crimes, they can contact MPD at 918-423-1212. Citizens can also call Crime Stoppers at 866-970-8477.
“Also,” Wansick said, “I ask that the public be aware of individuals selling cigarettes” and immediately contact the authorities.
