Aldridge alarm caused by water, not fire

McALESTER — The McAlester Fire Department rushed equipment and personnel to the Aldridge Senior Apartments at the corner at 200 E. Carl Albert Parkway after a fire alarm sounded in the building Monday afternoon .

However, they found that the source of the alarm had to do with water, not fire.

When the alarm sounded at 2: 27 p.m., a contingent of firefighters with firefighting and rescue equipment  headed to the scene.

The six firefighters who went to the Aldridge brought with them two fire engines, a ladder truck and an ambulance.

When they went inside the hotel, they found no fire or smoke. That led them to try and determine what might have caused the alarm to sound. They soon discovered it came from an unexpected source.

“Low water pressure set the fire alarm off,” said Lt. Richard Black.

The ladder truck was soon sent back to the  station after firefighters determined no emergency was under way. Firefighters stayed on the scene until the pressure was restored, according to Black.

“It didn’t take long,” he said. Reports showed the pressure was back up and firefighters left by 2:54 p.m.
