Crowder man shot by OHP after pursuit

McALESTER — Officials say a Crowder man is in stable condition after being shot twice by an Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper.

A Crowder man was hit twice by an OHP trooper shortly after on noon Wednesday, according to OHP Capt. George Brown.

Doctor is alleged to have pulled a tall gun on the trooper after a pursuit that ended near Antlers on the Indian Nation Turnpike.

Brown said the incident occurred after a trooper spotted the man allegedly driving a stolen vehicle near Highway 3.

The pursuit moved to the turnpike and the trooper used a tactical vehicle intervention, spinning the car into a near by convenience store.

Brown said that’s when the man allegedly exited the vehicle with a rifle and pointed it at the trooper, the trooper fired five rounds and the man was hit once in the scalp and once in the hand. He said the man was placed in custody and airlifted to a Tulsa hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

Brown said once the suspect is released, he will be taken to the Pushmataha County jail.

The name of the trooper is not being released at this time as the case is still under investigation.
