Man falls from underway boat, drowns in lake

A Canute man has drowned after falling out of a boat on Lake Eufaula.

Eddie J. Edler, 62, fell overboard around 1:50 p.m. on Thursday while standing up in a 22-foot Voyager pontoon boat, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said. The boat, operated by James L. Edler, 68, also of Canute, was underway in the Highline Cove area of Lake Eufaula in McIntosh County, the highway patrol said.

After Eddie Edler fell overboard, he resurfaced, then went under again and never resurfaced, according to the highway patrol.

His body was located using side scan sonar equipment. Troopers located the body at 5:01 p.m. on Thursday in 17 feet of water, approximately in the same location where he fell overboard, the highway patrol said.

Trooper Jimmy Lee investigated the accident, with assistance from trooper Neal Hurst and Lt. Greg Giles.
