County clerk offers copy of deed for $1

McALESTER — After a new home buyer showed PIttsburg County Clerk Janice Barker a letter offering a copy of his grant deed for $84, Barker said she wants residents to know that the clerks office will do the same thing for just $1.

The letter, called a “Deed Processing Notice” is from Conveyance Transfer Service in Washington D.C.
According to the letter, for an $84 processing fee, the company will provide a copy of the grant deed and a property profile.
The letter also contains information about the residents new home including the sale price, the year it was built, legal property address and other information.
Barker said that’s something her office does everyday.
“You can come into this office and we will give you a copy for $1, Barker said. “And as far as a ‘property profile,’ you can get the entire history of the property for free, it’s all public record.”
And she said it only takes minutes to do the research.
When contacted by News-Capital, Neal Cain the owner of Conveyance Transfer Service said his company sends the letters out to new owners and he charges the $84 to provide a service.
“We are providing a service of convenience,” Cain said. He said the fee includes shipping charges. He also said people who feel they may have over-paid can request a refund by calling 888-523-2117.
And although the address for the processing center for the company is in Washington D.C., Cain said the company is actually located in Westlake Village, Calif.
