McALESTER —
Only a few days remain before the cut-off date to apply for Mail-in absentee ballots prior to the upcoming Aug. 28 Run-Off Primary Election.
Both Democrats and Republicans can cast ballots in the Aug. 28 run-off, with candidates from both parties vying to see who will be the respective nominees for the District 2 U.S. House seat currently held by U.S. Rep. Dan Boren, D-Muskogee.
The Pittsburg County Election Board can accept the mail-in absentee ballot applications up until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, said Pittsburg County Election Board Secretary Cathy Thornton.
Election board workers must have the mail-in applications in their hands by the Wednesday deadline in order to be processed in time for the Aug. 28 run-off, Thornton said.
That’s the first of two deadlines.
Those voting by mail-in absentee ballots must return the ballots by mail and the ballots must be in the hands of election board workers by 7 p.m. on Election Day, Aug. 28, in order to counted, according to Thornton.
Applications are available at the Pittsburg County Election Board office at 109 E. Carl Albert Parkway, Room 101.
On the Republican side in the Aug. 28 run-off for the District 2 House seat, plumbing company owner Markwayne Mullin faces three-time state representative George Faught.
The Democratic ballot features the run-off election between Rob Wallace, who is the former district attorney for Latimer and LeFlore counties; a former assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, and a District 18 assistant district attorney, and Wayne Harriman, an agricultural businessman.
Winners of Democratic and Republican run-off elections will face each other, along with Independent candidate Michael Fulks, during the Nov. 6 General Election to see who will succeed Boren, who didn’t seek re-election.
Mail-in absentee ballot applications are also available on-line at www.ok.gov/elections/, on the Oklahoma State Election Board’s Web site.
