Events set at Hartshorne Public Library

McALESTER — Hartshorne’s Public Library has two weekends of events coming up, starting with a book-signing by a local author this weekend and a Friends of the Library book sale the following weekend.

Events start with a book-signing by McAlester writer Tiffany Dawn Burch from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday at the library at 720 Penn. Ave. Burch will be available to sign copies of her book, called “Daddy!”

Hartshorne Head Librarian Cathy Tucker said Burch will have a table set up where she will sign her book. “Daddy!” is described as “a  memoir that takes a unique perspective through the journey of dealing with the grief of the death of a loved one.”

Using poetry, prose, letters, and journal entries, Burch writes of moments from prior to her father’s death, to the initial shock and stages of grief as she transitions to the final stage of acceptance, according to information provided regarding her book.

The following week, the semiannual Friends of the Library book sale gets under way at the Hartshorne library, Tucker said. It begins on Feb. 28, a Thursday, and continues through the following Friday and Saturday, on March 1 and 2.

“They have this sale twice a year,” Tucker said, with all proceeds going in support of the library, with some of the funds going in support of programs for children and programs for adults.

Friends of the Library officers include Virginia Barlow, chairman; James Kurilko, co-chairman; Shirley McBee, treasurer, and Tucker, who serves as secretary.
