Eufaula Art Walk and Car Show slated

Submitted report

EUFAULA, Okla. — The Eufaula Art Walk and Car Show is a city-wide art festival which will include a car and golf cart show and will feature a golf cart parade.

The Eufaula Area Arts Council members have been canvassing the region to find what businesses and artists want to participate. Anybody interested in selling art, playing music, showing a car or golf cart, being a vendor or volunteering is encouraged to call or drop by the Eufaula Main Street Studio. This is the seventh year Eufaula Area Arts Council will host this event.

Regional artists display their art on Main Street near the court yard at the Bank of Eufaula. Car show people set up at Posey Park across from Nichols Grocery. Caricature artist Lynn Melton will set up at Posey Park emphasizing car caricatures and any other kind of caricatures people want hand drawn.

Golf cart travelers will set up on Foley Street near the stop light on Main Street. Three awards are being prepared by a regional artist for the golf cart show.

“This year Eufaula Art Walk is dedicated to Jackson Narcomey. He was a Creek artist, originally from Eufaula, who was part of Art Walk last year and has passed away since,” said Glenna McBride, executive director for the Eufaula Area Arts Council. His daughter will have a display of his art work at the Eufaula Main Street Studio during the art walk.

The Bank of Eufaula opens its doors on this Saturday to greet lookers and buyers and allow them opportunities to support area artists. Jon Tiger, a local Creek artist, recruits several Native American artists to set up inside the bank. Other Indian and area artists will also be set up in the court yard and parking lot near the bank.

Joe Brennen and his musicians will be guest troubadours touring the streets. Brennen, from Oklahoma City, gave a guitar workshop in Eufaula during 2008 at the local library. During this workshop he provided an overview of guitar playing styles; open D tuning and its application to slide guitar while showcasing vintage instruments. His jolly lyrics and swift guitar playing are sure to entertain many.

Doug Russell will also be a guest musician touring the streets. Russell, from Stigler, happens to be a guitar player and is also the editor of the Stigler News Sentinel. He sings and plays music from Ireland. Eufaula Area Arts is proud to sponsor Russell on this side of Lake Eufaula.

Eufaula Ford and Odom Insurance will sponsor the car show. Clark Davis will be the car show DJ, set up under the white pavilion at Posey Park. All types of cars are welcome.

Brandi Hutchings, from Invision Photography, is creating the T-shirt images. If businesses or individuals want their name or logo on the T-shirt, contact her at 918-618-4844.
