Inmate who escaped JBCC last year back in McAlester

McALESTER — An inmate who allegedly escaped last year from the Jackie Brannon Correctional Center is back in McAlester to face charges.

Alvin Boyer, 27, allegedly escaped from JBCC on Oct. 26. He was apprehended by law enforcement in Missouri on Nov. 12.

Boyer is now in custody at the Pittsburg County jail and is set to appear in court Friday at 9 a.m. Boyer was charged in Pittsburg County District Court with one felony count of escaping from the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. He was booked into custody at the county jail on Jan. 17.

Correctional officers did a special 8:30 a.m. count on the morning he allegeldy escaped and noticed Boyer was missing. At the time, JBCC Warden’s Assistant Laurie Martin said the correctional facility was working with multiple law enforcement agencies to capture Boyer. “We’ve got people on the ground, on the road, and the dogs are out and trying to track him.”

Boyer was allegeldy on the run for 18 days before he was apprehended. Boyer was taken into custody by the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, according to Martin. “He was arrested at approximately 2:40 p.m. at a residence in Joplin, Missouri, by Newton County Sheriff’s deputies,” Martin said. “Deputies located the offender hiding in the attic of a residence. Boyer was taken into custody without incident.”

Boyer began serving time at JBCC on Sept. 22, 2011, according to the DOC website at www.doc.state.ok.us. In July of 2011, Boyer was sentenced to serve 2,982 days for multiple firearm and drug related felony convictions.
