33 felony counts dismissed for McAlester man

McALESTER — On Dec. 28, there were 33 felony counts of unlawful purchase of pseudoephedrine dismissed for a McAlester man.

Clint Eric Bess, 28, was charged July 18 in Pittsburg County District Court with the following counts:

• Manufacturing a controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine),

• Thirty-three counts of unlawful purchase of pseudoephedrine,

• Misdemeanor unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia,

• Misdemeanor driving with a suspended license, and

• Misdemeanor failure to signal on turning.

According to court records, Bess filed a motion to dismiss the paraphernalia charge and the 33 pseudoephedrine charges on Dec. 12. “On December 14, the Court entered an Order directing the State to file a response within ten days,” court records state. “No response has been filed,” and Bess’s motion to dismiss was granted.

Bess is set to appear in court on the manufacturing charge on Jan. 30 at 10 a.m..

According to a police affidavit, Bess was driving on Carl Albert Parkway in McAlester on July 16 when he was pulled over by police. When authorities searched his vehicle, “officers found what was believed to be a shake (and) bake methamphetamine (lab) in trash bags in the bed of the vehicle,” a police affidavit states.

Bess was arrested and transported to the Pittsburg County Jail. He has been in custody there since July 16 in lieu of a $125,000 bond and was unavailable for comment at presstime. If convicted, he is facing up to life imprisonment.
