A Eufaula housekeeper has been accused of stealing checks from a home in Longtown and forging them to buy groceries, gas and pay her electric bill.
Marlina Melton, 32, was charged Thursday in Pittsburg County District Court with two counts of uttering a forged instrument and larceny form the house.
According to court records, Melton worked as a housekeeper for Arthina Christiansen, of Longtown. Christiansen told police that she realized her bank account was short on funds, and when she investigated into the matter, she found that she was missing a book of checks and that Melton had allegedly used the checks to buy gas, groceries and even pay her electric bill.
Pittsburg County Sheriff Deputy Nick Mattioda investigated the alleged crimes. When interviewed, Melton allegedly “admitted to taking the checks and writing them for the electric bill and to buy some gas and groceries for her kids and to have gas to get back and forth to work,” Mattioda’s affidavit states.
