Bobby Joe Brown Jr.’s criminal record
• March 2013 (U.S. EDOK, Muskogee) — Pleaded guilty to federal charge of felon in possession of a firearm. Awaiting sentencing.
• August 2012 (Pittsburg County) — Charged with possession of controlled dangerous substances (methamphetamine and marijuana), possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction and unlawfully carrying a weapon. Case dismissed.
• March 2012 (Pittsburg County) — Charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Case dismissed.
• December 2011 (Pittsburg County) — Charged with two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Pleaded no contest to the first count and received a 10-year suspended sentence. The second count was dismissed.
• June 2011 (Oklahoma County) — Charged with concealing stolen property, possession of a controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine) and possession of a controlled dangerous substance (marijuana). Pleaded guilty and sentencing was deferred for five years.
• December 2002 (Pittsburg County) — Charged with driving while under the influence. Pleaded guilty and received a one-year suspended sentence.
• March 1997 (Pittsburg County) — Charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and feloniously carrying a firearm. Found guilty by jury and sentenced to serve five years in the custody of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.
• July 1995 (Pittsburg County) — Charged with unlawful possession of a controlled drug and feloniously carrying a firearm. Convicted and received suspended sentencing, which was revoked in 1997 and he was sentenced to serve two years in the custody of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.
• June 1994 (Pittsburg County) — Charged with bogus check. Case dismissed after restitution paid in full.
• June 1992 (Pittsburg County) — Charged with bogus check. Case dismissed after restitution paid in full.
• August 1990 (Oklahoma County) — Charged with concealing stolen property and second degree burglary. Pleaded guilty and convicted.
• May 1990 (Pittsburg County) — Charged with public drunk. Unknown outcome.
• April 1990 (Pittsburg County) — Charged with driving under the influence, driving under suspension and failure to have security verification in immediate possession. Pleaded guilty.
• March 1990 (Pittsburg County) — Charged with driving while impaired, driving under suspension and transporting an open container. Pleaded guilty.
• January 1989 (Pittsburg County) — Charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Convicted and sentenced to three years incarceration followed by one year probation.
• January 1989 (Pittsburg County) — Convicted in a 1987 case of two counts of uttering forged instruments. Received two years probation on each count.

McAlester man pleads guilty to federal firearms charge

McALESTER — A McAlester man recently pleaded guilty to a federal firearms charge.

Bobby Joe Brown Jr., 52, of McAlester, pleaded guilty March 19 to one federal felony count of felon in possession of a firearm.

According to a press release form the United States Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Oklahoma, charges against Brown arose after an investigation by the McAlester Police Department, Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department, District 27 District Attorney’s Drug Task Force, Tahlequah Police Department, Muskogee Police Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Violent Crimes Task Force.

The January indictment alleges Brown had in his possession of Herbert Smith .22 caliber revolver on Aug. 20, the press release states.

Brown will remain in the custody of the United States Marshal Service pending sentencing, which will take place following the completion of a presentence report.

“The statutory range of punishment is a mandatory minimum of 15 years imprisonment and /or up to a $250,000 fine,” the press releast states.
