McAlester man accused of pulling gun on police

McALESTER — A McAlester man is accused of pulling a gun on police recently.

Aaron Scott Waggy, 26, was charged March 7 in Pittsburg County District Court with felony counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and attempted assault and battery on a police officer. He was also charged with misdemeanor counts of resisting an officer and domestic assault and battery in the presence of minor children.

According to court records, McAlester police responded March 6 to call about a fight in McAlester’s Park Place apartments. When police knocked on the door and entered the apartment, they found a woman with two children. Police then “heard a door open and saw (Waggy) stand(ing) in the doorway ... with both hands extended with a gun in his hand,” court records state.

McAlester police officer Kevin Bishop “ducked back around the corner and drew his service weapon” and informed other officers about Waggy’s gun, court records state.

“Bishop pointed his weapon down the hall from a kneeling position,” according to court records, and ordered Waggy to “drop the weapon.” Officer Bishop “could still see that (Waggy) was pointing a gun down the hall in the officers direction.”

After several orders from police, Waggy “threw the gun in the living room where the officers were,” court records state. After a continued struggle, officers finally took Waggy into custody.

While at the Pittsburg County jail, Waggy allegedly tried to kick Bishop, court records state.

Waggy is in custody at the Pittsburg County jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond and was unavailable for comment at presstime. If convicted, he is facing up to life in prison.
