Human remains found just north of Quinton

McALESTER — Unidentified human remains were found recently just north of Quinton, near the Pittsburg County and Haskell County line, said Pittsburg County Undersheriff Richard Bedford.

On Dec. 13, in the evening, the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding human bones being found on a ranch just north of Quinton, off State Highway 71. Pittsburg County Investigator Tommy Lyons said he processed the scene Friday along with Angela Berg, an anthropologist for the Oklahoma State Medical Examiners Office.

Although the identity of the remains is still under investigation, Lyons said Berg was able to determine that the body is male and has been there approximately one to two years.

The skeletal remains were found by a worker, who then reported the find to PCSO, Lyons said.

Bedford said the state medical examiner’s office took possession of the remains and is working to determine the body’s identity, as well as the cause and manner of death.

“We’re going back and checking all out missing person reports,” Bedford said. “I believe the state examiner is working on getting a composite drawing, or reconstruction, of the skull to determine what the person looked like.”

Lyons says there was evidence of dental work on the remains. “We’re hoping to be able to identify the body through dental records as well as DNA,” Lyons said.

If anyone has any information, contact PCSO at 918-423-5858.
