School board races set

School board races were set in four school districts

McALESTER —

School board races were set in  four school districts in Pittsburg County as the three-day filing period ended, while other candidates were set to win offices without opposition.
As of Thursday, races were set for Feb. 12 in the Frink-Chambers, Haileyville, Indianola and Savanna school districts, with the most candidates running for office in Savanna.
School board candidates in the Canadian, Crowder, Hartshorne, Haywood, Krebs, McAlester, Pittsburg and Tannehill school districts were set to take office unopposed.
School districts where races were set, candidates filing for the post and the offices being contested, include:
• Frink Chambers — Melinda Nix and Dhonda Vaughan both filed for a three-year term in Office No. 3.
• Haileyville — Lynette Price, Larry D. Morgan and D. Rena White all filed for a five-year term in Office No. 3.
• Indianola — Gabriel Patrick and Nanci  Battles are seeking a three-year term in Office No. 3.
• Savanna — Two races are set in the Savanna school district. Haskell Melton, John Green  and Randy Harmon are both running for an unexpired term in Office No. 1.
In the other race in the Savanna school district, Jimmie D. Davis II and Terry Ward are vying for a five-year term in Office No. 3.
School districts where candidates are currently set to take office without opposition following the February election and the candidates who were without opposition for the posts are:
• Canadian — Orda Selph had no opponent for a five-year term in Office No. 3.
• Crowder — Elizabeth Ann Jameson was the sole candidate for a five-year term in Office No. 3.
• Hartshorne — Brandon Joe Budzinsky had no opposition for a five-year term in Office No. 3.
• Haywood — Laura Lalli was the only candidate for a three-year term in Office No. 3.
• Kiowa — Karla Hall had no opponent for a five-year term in Office No. 3.
• Krebs — Three candidates who filed for separate school board seats in Krebs were set to take office unopposed. Billy Sumner filed for an unexpired term in Office No. 1; Bill Timberton is the sole candidate for a two-year unexpired term in Office 2 and Brooke Mason had no opposition for a three-year term in Office in Office No. 3.
• McAlester — David W. Turner is the only candidate for a five-year term in Office No. 3.
• Pittsburg — Steve Billingsley is the sole candidate for a five-year term in Office No. 3.
• Quinton — Lou Ann Knell filed had no opposition for a five-year term in Office No. 3.
• Tannehill — David  Cuenod Jr. filed without opposition for a three-year term in Office No. 3.
Candidates had until 5 p.m. Friday to withdraw their candidacy or to formally protest the candidacy of another candidate in the same race before the races and candidates are finalized by the Pittsburg County Election Board.
An April 2 runoff election is scheduled is case no candidate gets more than 50 percent of the vote in the Feb. 12 election.
