The trick is to divide and conquer.
That’s what three McAlester women said they do every year during the McAlester area on Black Friday.
Tandy Town shoppers were out enforce early Friday morning filling parking spots and lining up at McDonalds for a snack between Black Friday specials.
That’s where McAlester women shared their secrets for Black Friday shopping success while taking a break early Friday morning.
“We have pushers and runners,” said Kathy Price who shops with her daughters-in-law Lori Price and Melissa Price. The women have a lot in common, all three have birthdays in December and Lori Price and Melissa Price were best friends before they married Kathy Price’s sons.
It’s a relationship that appears to work well for the women as they talked about thier Black Friday game plan.
Kathy Price said said one pushes the cart and waits in line while the others run to get the sales items.
And It’s a method that’s worked well for the three for almost a decade, they said.
“It’s crazy, but it’s fun,” Melissa Price said.
They said they start planning as soon as they get the first sales ad and they check online. This year they shopped at J.C. Penney, Stage, and Walmart in McAlester and Checotah.
“Different Walmarts have different prices for the same things,” Lori Price said.
Then they said they plan who will shop for what so not a minute is lost.
“We started this year at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday night and again this morning at 5:30 a.m., Kathy Price said.
She said every year the sales start earlier and earlier on Thursday and it’s starting to cut into their family time.
“I think if they are going to start the sales any earlier on Thursday they ought to call it Black Thursday too.” Kathy Price said.
One of their big scores for the day was 60” Smart T.V. for $688. “But you’ve got to really watch the prices, Melissa Price said. “They will ring it up wrong sometimes.”
Lori Price said some McAlester store clerks are nicer than others.
“The people at Stage were really nice and helpful,” she said.
One secret the ladies shared was to check the carts that are sometimes abandoned in the isles and at customer service. “Look for deserted carts, you’ll find all kinds of good stuff,” Lori Price said.
Kathy Price said with the crowds, it can be a little scary so she asked her brother to pray for them this time around.
She laughed as she said, “he told me, ‘I don’t worry about you, I worry for the people who get in your way.”
