U.S. Navy County Current concert tickets now available at News-Capital

McALESTER — Tickets are available beginning today for the United States Navy Band Country Current’s upcoming McAlester concert.

The free tickets are available at the McAlester News-Capital’s front office at 500 S. Second St.

Country Current’s performance is set for 6:30 on Sept. 22, which is a Saturday night, at Life Church in McAlester. Life Church and the McAlester News-Capital and are co-sponsoring the concert.

Country Current is a country music-bluegrass band that’s won international recognition for its concerts. The U.S. Navy considers Country Current its “premiere country-bluegrass ensemble” and calls the group’s stage show fun-filled and family-friendly.

“This seven-member ensemble employs musicians from diverse backgrounds with extensive high-profile recording and touring experience in the music scenes of Nashville Tenn., New York City, New Orleans and more,” the Navy said in a statement about the group.

“In the tradition of country music, each member is a skilled performer on multiple instruments. The band utilizes banjo, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, mandolin, fiddle, electric bass, upright bass, Dobro, pedal steel guitar and drum set.”

Since the band’s beginnings in 1973, Country Current’s personnel has changed over the years. Musicians with  the group have performed for Presidents Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. Country Current has also performed in international locations in nations such as Canada, China and Switzerland.

Called “a staple of the bluegrass, scene by the U.S. Navy, Country Current has shared the stage with bluegrass musicians such as Dailey and Vincent, Rhonda Vincent, IIIrd Tyme Out, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, J.D. Crowe, the Seldom Scene and others.
