Toys for Tots comes to McAlester

McALESTER — Needy children in Pittsburg County can benefit from this year’s U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program, thanks to October Alpi.

Married to a retired Marine, Alpi said when she learned that there was no offical Toys for Tots for the Pittsburg County area, she decided to start one.

“I believe that charity begins at home,” she said.
In previous years toys donated in the McAlester area were distributed to children in Tulsa, she said.
But this year she decided change all that.
“There are so many needy families right here and it just touched my heart,” Alpi said.
She’s said she’s hoping those families will contact her soon.
She’s is working under the Tulsa area Toys for Tots with Staff Sgt. Cheek as an unofficial coordinator for Pittsburg County, according to Alpi.
And so far she’s placed four of her five collection boxes for donations of new unwrapped toys but she still has one left, she said. “Any interested business can call me.”
Alpi said she plans to distribute the gifts on Dec. 21.
To sign up for the program or for more information contact Alpi at 918-389-4969.
