100 Years of Girl Scouts in McAlester

McALESTER — For the last 100 years the Girl Scouts of America has inspired and encouraged millions of women to be courageous and strong, one of those women is Deborah Hacker an attorney and a McAlester City Municipal Judge.

In honor of the centennial event the Southeastern Conference will host several special events including a luncheon honoring Hackler.

Hackler will be honored at a Juliette Low Luncheon April 26th at Pete’s Place, according to Dorothy Kennedy marketing and membership director for the conference.

Hackler a graduate of McAlester High School, the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma City University School of Law said Girl Scouts has been a strong influence in her life.

“Even though my active time in Girl Scouts occurred more than 35 years ago, Hackler said, some of my most vivid memories of childhood are of scouting activities. ”

We are using (Hackler) as an example to our girls that Girl Scouts can become leaders in their community, state and world,” she said Dorothy Kennedy marketing and membership director for the program.

In addition to the luncheon Kennedy said the conference has several events planned in honor of the 100 year anniversary.

“We have already started a Flame of Friendship, which has been passed around to all the counties in the council,” she said.

“We will are very excited about the Girl Scout Camp Reunion on April 14.” She said that event will be held at the Girl Scout Service Center at 301 W. Seneca. “This is for all the Girl Scouts who have ever attended camp,”
