The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says the plan it presented during a city council workshop held in McAlester this week is close to being ODOT’s final plan for U.S. Highway 69 where it runs through McAlester.
During the meeting held Wednesday at Eastern Oklahoma State College’s McAlester Campus, ODOT personnel heard some compliments — along with a barrage of criticism for the current highway plans.
Many of the compliments came from the revised plan for the state to take far less than had been expected from private property owners along the highway.
Only three parcels should be affected, and those only slightly, according to information presented during the meeting.
However, plans to have no way for northbound traffic to exit the highway between the traffic light on Peaceable Road, near Braum’s Ice Cream and Dairy Store, all the way to U.S. Highway 270 overpass, drew the most criticism.
