County’s junior livestock show: It’s a family thing
It’s a family thing.
Crowder FFA’s Kelsie Roach, 15, described showing livestock as not only an activity that teaches responsibility and commitment, but provides constant opportunity for teamwork and family time, as well.
Roach, who began showing pigs at the age of 7, decided to follow in the footsteps of older brother Brandon, now 17.
“Brandon was showing pigs,” she recalled. “I wanted to be just as good as he was, so I started showing them, too.”
The show bug had bitten both Roach children, so it wasn’t long before their barns contained more than just pigs.
“Brandon got a lamb when I was 10 or 11. I wanted to one-up him, so I got a calf,” she grinned.
And with that, it was on.
