McALESTER —
Sandy “Ninny” Hamilton, the public relations representative for the local chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA), said she hopes to find local athletes to compete in a state-wide obstacle race.
“We are focusing on trying to help more children in the area.” Hamilton said. And every BACA fundraiser is in efforts to help children.
The following information about the race came from a BACA press release:
All-Terrain Events, a leader in producing active outdoor charitable events, is proud to announce the first annual Oklahoma “Race the Reaper,” a 6-mile obstacle race taking place Sept. 1 and 2 at Sparks America Campgrounds in Sparks, Oklahoma.
“Race the Reaper” originated in 2011 in Oregon. The obstacle race in Oklahoma will live up to the reputation of the toughest obstacle race in the state. It offers a new level of competition from runners, casual and elite athletes and teams who will inspire each other to push their whole bodies and mental toughness to a new level as they complete 20 unique obstacles.
Thousands are expected to sign up for the extreme run and obstacle course, with challenges such as the “ghoulish climb” A-frame monkey bars and the rope “death trap.” For a registration fee of $55-$75 (depending on the date of entry and military or team discounts), racers can choose what day and heat is best for them to run the race. Participants will receive bragging rights, a T-shirt, a medal and for those at least 21-years-old, a beer token. Race the Reaper will support Individual, Elite, and teams of racers (for discounts).
Register online by Aug. 24 at https://www.raceit.com/register/groups/default.aspx?newgroup=true&event=9725.
With the support of race participants, the community and sponsors, a percentage of the proceeds will go to Oklahoma’s Chapters of Bikers Against Child Abuse®.
BACA is a non-profit, organization that exists to provide aid, comfort, safety, and support for children. BACA also finances a therapy assistance fund to support children’s therapy when they are left without resources and contracts licensed therapists known for their expertise to work with children in need. No one in BACA is ever compensated for their efforts in BACA.
One-hundred percent of all money donated to BACA goes to support the mission.
“We can’t wait for racers to test their mental and physical fitness limits, all while helping Bikers Against Chile Abuse,” said Kevin Gilmore, All-Terrain Events co-founder, 15 year certified personal trainer, born and raised in Oklahoma. “I’m looking forward in bringing Race the Reaper to Oklahoma, because I know personally how much we Oklahomans love a challenge.”
The mission of BACA is: “No child should live in fear, and has the right to a happy childhood.” For more information about BACA visit the website at www.bacaworld.org.
During the 6-mile race complete with water crossings and gnarly obstacles runners can take head-on or bypass any of the 20 obstacles, so the difficulty can be tailored to one’s personal fitness level. The course is sure to get all-level of athlete’s hearts’ racing.
Participants will pick up race packets on the day of the race, Sept. 1 or 2. Free tent camping is available on-site at the Sparks America, as well as discounts to local hotels.
