McALESTER —
A McAlester man accused of aggravated assault bailed out of jail and then missed his scheduled court appearance.
Ricky Leon Childers, 37, is accused of beating Ricardo “Richard” Cordova on Dec. 9 in front of a McAlester laundry mat on Washington Avenue and, according to a police affidavit, Cordova was transported by medical helicopter to a Tulsa hospital immediately following the assault “due to possible situation with a spinal injury.”
Childers was arrested following the incident and was in custody at the Pittsburg County Jail until he posted a $30,000 bail on Feb. 2 and was released. Childers was due back in court Feb. 16, but failed to appear. Childers bond was forfeited and a bench warrant was immediately issued for his arrest. According to a representative from the Pittsburg County Jail, Childers was not in custody by presstime today.
