McALESTER —
A Eufaula housekeeper that was accused of stealing checks earlier this month pleaded guilty Wednesday in Pittsburg County District Court.
Marlina Melton, 32, pleaded guilty to two counts of uttering a forged instrument and one count of larceny from the house. According to court records, the housekeeper stole checks from a home in Longtown and forged them to buy groceries, gas and pay an electric bill.
Melton worked as a housekeeper for Arthina Christiansen, of Longtown. According to a police affidavit, Christiansen told police that she realized her bank account was short on funds, and when she investigated into the matter, she found that she was missing a book of checks.
Christiansen determined that her housekeeper, Melton, had used the checks to buy gas, groceries and even pay her electric bill.
After pleading guilty, Melton was fined $750, ordered to pay $310 in restitution and sentencing was deferred for one year.
