New pet wash to open

Got a dirty dog? Pet washes to help man’s best friends clean up their acts safely and conveniently, complete with specialty shampoos and dryers, are cropping up more and more often. Feb. 5 marks the opening of the newest version — Waggin Tails dogwash.

“People often complain about their dogs having itchy skin the next day after a bath,” said Dr. Brian Renegar, who co-owns Waggin Tails with wife, Teresa. “It’s because the household soaps commonly used at home contain detergents — which means ethyl alcohol.”

According to Renegar, detergents strip the skin and hair of necessary oils, causing dried out, flaky skin, leaving pets vulnerable to allergies against which natural oils provide protection.

Renegar’s new dogwash will offer shampoos that are not only detergent-free, but some medicated shampoos with treatments for dry skin and other problems resulting from such dermal disturbances as seborrhea, eczema and insect bites. The Kenic line of medicated shampoos offered is complete, Renegar added, with no need for conditioners, and available in a climate-controlled, convenient carwash-type facility boasting four bays designed with the safety of pets and their people in mind.

“We provide everything needed except the dog,” Renegar said, grinning. He listed ramps with slip-proof mats to raised tubs, cable-covered leads that won’t pull hair in small and large sizes, a variety of choices in shampoos at each bay, top-quality dryers, leads anchored in the walls in case of multiple-pet baths, and pet-safe disinfectants for between-pet cleaning of bays.

“We even provide aprons to keep your clothes dry,” he added.

There’s also a vending machine with doggie treats and towels.

“The machines take not only currency, but credit/debit cards, too, for convenience,” Renegar continued. “It’s a 24 hour self-serve facility, complete with security cameras.”

He added that $5 buys 10 minutes, then for each $1 after that, two minutes are added.

“Teresa did a phenomenal amount of research on shampoo,” Renegar said. “Professional show people steered us towards these particular shampoos.”

Shampoo selections include a moisturizing shampoo, a whitening shampoo with no peroxide or bleaches, a flea and tick control shampoo, an aloe-enhanced selection and even an oatmeal conditioning shampoo.

While the facility is labeled a dogwash, it will welcome all animals that will fit in the tubs, including cats, rabbits, ferrets, goats, and even lambs. All but one of the Kenic shampoos are suitable for any animal. The Tea Tree product is canine-specific, but the seven other choices, including the Supra Odor Control strong enough to overcome a skunk attack, are gentle enough to be used on all pets.

The propsed site for the mosque is acceptable.
The proposed site for the mosque is too close to ground zero and should be changed.
