Two local teens attended the world’s only “Worship and Rock and Roll Camp,” Camp Electric in Nashville, Tenn.
Camp Electric is not your average church or music camp. At Camp Electric, teens age 13 to 18 have an all-access pass to learn from some of today’s top Christian artists and musicians.
This year’s bands at Camp Electric included Red, News Boys, Pillar, Barlow Girl, Blue Tree and the Grammy award-winning Tobymac.
Lindsey Patterson, of McAlester, had the opportunity to attend Camp Electric this year. Patterson is the daughter of Dave and Pam Griffitts, of McAlester. A junior at McAlester High School, Patterson is an active member of the drum line band. She teaches drum lessons at the Music Store in McAlester. She is also an active member of the New Beginnings Church youth group and praise and worship team.
Music plays a big role in Patterson’s life. “The thing I remember most is meeting Lori Peters, the drummer for the band Skillet. Her music helped me through a dark time in my life. I was able to talk with her about personal issues and she assured me that God hears me and cares for me,” Patterson said. “She prayed for me and that will take me everywhere I go.”
Brittany Chronister, of Wilburton, also attended the camp with Patterson. Chronister is a recent graduate of Panola High School. She is the daughter of Mike and Kimberly Chronister, of Wilburton. Chronister plans to attend Carl Albert State College in Poteau. She is also a member of New Beginnings.
“Getting to go was one of the most amazing experiences. The thing I will remember most is rocking out to Blue Tree every morning and before each concert,” Chronister said. “I made a lot of friends and plan to attend again next year.”
