Letter to the Editor: Shocking news
I have read your article on McAlester News-Capital about Alverson execution. I am a barrister here in Athens, Greece and as you may know the death sentence has been abolished in Western Europe since the 70s. So news of executions taking place in other countries is considered more or less shocking for us here in the Continent.

Letter to the Editor: Cruel, unhuman and unconstitutional
It is very sad that you must write about executions in Oklahoma. The death penalty is cruel, unhuman, unconstitutional and very unusual punishment. It is time to abolish any kind of execution worldwide as soon as possible.

Letter to the Editor: Needs have not decreased
I am writing to encourage a yes vote on the January 11, 2011 school bond issues for McAlester Public Schools. My business is located in this school district and my ad valorem taxes will increase if the bond issue is passed, but I believe the time is here for us to take an important step to provide modern facilities for the children and youth of McAlester.

Letter to the Editor: Proud to be an alumnus
By now, much discussion has occurred about the pros and cons of the upcoming McAlester school bond election. The details of the propositions have been presented to the general public

Letter to the editor: Maintained with Band-Aids
As a proud citizen of McAlester, I’d like to ask the voters of the McAlester School District to join me in going to the polls on January 11 and voting yes!

Letter to the editor: Aggressive and outrageous
On January 11, we will be asked to vote to increase our property taxes by 30 percent.

Letter to the Editior: Where’s the tile?
I remember as a young grade school student, attending Will Rogers Elementary school, and thinking at the time, “Wow, this is a big place, but I wonder why there are parts of the tile floor missing?” That was almost 25 years ago. As life revolves and fate works its magic, I found myself walking back into the same school just three years ago. Walking down the exact same hallway, to visit my wife’s third grade classroom I thought, “Hey there’s Mrs. Boyd’s old classroom! Wow, this is just like I remembered, and the tile still needs a lot of work!”

Letter to Editor: Raising the bar and school pride
I am writing this letter in support of the McAlester Public School bond vote coming up in January. As a dad of three, I have always wanted the “best” for my kids. I have always enjoyed seeing them do well in a newer, healthier environment. We came to McAlester from a larger school district where they had many opportunities and I would have liked to have offered them the same quality here in McAlester. As parents and supporters of the school we now have the opportunity to take a leap towards offering this better quality. It is impossible to put a price on the success of your children. But in my mind, a few hundred dollars a year is a small price to pay.
