Residents upset at theft of flags, flowers from cemetery

There have been reports that flags and flowers have been stolen off graves at local cemeteries.

Pearl Butcher said that she decorated her late husband’s grave at the McCurtain Miner’s Cemetery and someone had stolen the flags she had put on his WWII U.S. Army veterans grave.

She said that it was pretty bad when someone steals off the dead.

The Palestine Church will have its decoration on May 28.

The Quinton junior high cheerleaders won first in competition at Whitewater on May 20,

My granddaughter, Holly Murray, is a cheerleader in the seventh grade this fall.

Ronald Tucker was released from Muskogee Regional Hospital on May 15 and returned to Talihina Veteran’s Home, where he lives.

Charlene Daniel held a Bible study on May 15 at Quinton Manor. Those present were myself, Donald Ritz, Dorothy Degroot and Eva Bennight.

I held a prayer meeting on May 17 at Quinton Manor. Those present were Tressa Nobles, Gery Aby, Iva Hayes, Hattie Seabolt, Eva Bennight, Pauline Giles, Dorothy Degroot, Edith Franklin, Holly Murray, Donald Ritz and Joshua Murray.

Jimmy Turner and Dolores Fisher, of Quinton, visited in Oklahoma City on May 17. While there Jimmy had cancer treatments at a local hospital.

Colene Basden was a visitor in Stigler last week.

It was reported that Nathan Etchison had a stroke recently and was admitted to McAlester Regional Health Center.

Carol Gragg, of Brooken was a visitor in Stigler last week.

Marie Monks said that she had pneumonia after her surgery on May 10 at Haskell County Hospital in Stigler.

Coach Glen Stone and wife, Joyce, of McAlester, went on vacation to Branson, Mo., May 19 to 21.

My recent visitors were the Rev. Charles and Shirley Thomas, the Rev. Eddie Dye, Charlene Daniel, Armatha Calhoun, Carol Gragg, Lou Ann and Peyton Knell, Donald Ritz, McKayla Franklin, Sarah Needham, Donna Adcock, Kathy Taylor and children, and April, Joshua and Holly Murray.

Tom and Janice Meeker, of Eufaula, were visitors in Omaha, Neb., recently.

Joe and Linda Hammock visited Hughie and Carol Gragg, of Brooken, last week. The Hammocks live in Broken Arrow.

Ariel Gragg, of Quinton, is spending her summer vacation with Chris, Julie, Luke, Matt and Kristen Gragg, of Ardmore.

Matt Gragg visited last weekend with his grandparents, Hughie and Carol Gragg, of Brooken.

Those visiting Margie Brimer, of McAlester, on Mother’s Day were Steve and Debbie Basden, Crystal Basden, Justin Coxsey, Stoney and Kendlyn Basden, Bruce and Kathy Chapman, Robbie, Terri, Ty and Hanna McFarland, Tanya, Riley and Lachas Burns, and Will and Christie Leach.

Happy 42nd birthday on May 5 to Patricia Capehart, of Stigler.

Haley Young, of Clayton celebrated her seventh birthday on May 20 at her parent’s home, Steve and Stephanie Young. Haley is my grandniece.

Visiting Lora Bunyard at Quinton Manor last week were her daughter, Bell Williams, of McAlester, and her nephew, Mace Henson, of Eufaula.

Bill and Edna Young, of Tulsa, visited his mother, Hattie Seabolt, at Quinton Manor.

The Sold Out To Jesus gospel singers performed at Quinton Manor on May 20. The group includes Sharon Morris, Cameo Brennar and Terri Steward.

The Quinton First Baptist Church held services on May 21 at Quinton Manor.

The Rev. Eddie Dye brought the message from God’s holy word.

John Daniels, of Huntington, W.Va., attended the Quinton High School graduation of his cousin, Kaylauna Daniels, on May 12. Daniels is a sophomore at Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va. He is the son of Joe and Denice Daniels, of Quinton.

Funeral services for Lillian Westbrooks-Stephenson, of Richcrest, Calif., were May 17. She was formerly of the Brooken area. We extend out sympathy to her family.

Inez Daniels and Bonita Pearce wish their friend, Sam Basden, a happy 73rd birthday on May 28.

Micah Daniels will celebrate his 27th birthday with a party on May 26 at the home of his grandparents, Emmett and Inez Daniels.

Grace Edwards, 100, has been released from a hospital in Yukon and is now staying with her granddaughter, Shelly Cox, of Quinton.

Opal Gragg, of Quinton, was taken to Haskell County Hospital on May 20.
