Local musician wins big at Los Angeles Music Awards

McALESTER — A McAlester independent recording artist recently won big at the 22nd Annual Los Angeles Music Awards held last week in Hollywood Calif.

McAlester resident Sean Ward won the Country Music Artist of the Year and his song “Drive” won Country Song of the Year at the show held Nov. 15.
“It’s humbling,” Ward said. “Its a huge honor.”
He said a walk down the red carpet, autograph seekers and the flashing  lights of the paparazzi were all part of the fun when he attended the Los Angeles Music Awards show held last week at the Avalon Hotel in downtown Hollywood, Calif.
“It was great,” Ward said.
“I had a few people ask me for my autograph after I won.”
Before the awards show, Ward said he performed before a large crowd at a legendary Hollywood night club.
“I got to play at the Whiskey a Go-Go and I was very well received,” he said.
Because the contest is open to artists in any geographical location, Ward   he competed with more than 10,000 independent music artists to win the award.
“It took a lot of courage to submit my music, but it was worth it,” he said.
The competition is only open to artists or bands who are unsigned with “major” record labels such as Capitol, Interscope, Universal, and are not subject to any exclusive recording or record distribution agreements, according to lamusicawards.com.
Ward said he writes all of his own material he and entered the competition because he wanted to see how he rated against other musicians.
His next step will be a showcase in Nashville coming up next month.
