'Choose To Give'

Local toy drive barrels can be found around McAlester

McALESTER — Already in full swing is the fourth annual Choose To Give Toy Drive.

Back on Nov. 2 barrels were placed in local banks and businesses such as: Interior Resources, Spirit, Lowe’s, Komar and Panache. The barrels are also at McAlester High School and Lakewood Christian Church.

Lisa Kirk, founder of the toy drive, explains that toys donated should be new, or like new, and unwrapped. She adds that toy guns and toy weapons are not acceptable.

On Dec. 7, the barrels will be gathered, and on Dec. 9, the toys will be given to local children nominated by the community at the Southeast Expo Center.

“We get names through schools and local shelters,” Kirk said.

She adds that it’s not too late to nominate children to receive toys from the toy drive.

If anyone is interested in submitting names or contributing financially to either “like” the Choose To Give Toy Drive’s Facebook page and then message the organization, or call Kirk at 918-470-9833.

To donate toys, find one of the many barrels around McAlester. Kirk said the barrels are normally located in the lobbies.

Last year, Kirk said they gave out around 600 toys.

When asked what motivated Kirk to begin this charity, she said, “It’s something God put on my heart to do.”
