Check out that body!

McALESTER — A McAlester man will vie for the title of Mr. Oklahoma on June 9th.

To earn the title of Mr. Oklahoma, Kevin Wilson, 29,  will contend to become a National Qualifier in the 2012 National Physique Committee’s Oklahoma Bodybuilding Fitness Figure and Bikini Championship in Tulsa.

Wilson is a 2001 graduate of McAlester High school and a Diagnostic Medical Sonagrapher at McAlester Regional Health Center.

He said he’s been serious about body building for the last several years but only recently began competing.

“I’ve always been interested in body building,” Wilson said. “But I never had the nerve to compete.”

Wilson said his first contest was the Battle of the Bodies and at first he was discouraged that he didn’t do very well in the competition. But with a few encouraging words he decided to keep on trying.

“I had lots of people come up to me and tell me I did very well and they were surprised that I didn’t win,” Wilson said.

He said the comments bolstered his courage and he decided to try it again and to step up his workout.

“I started in February working out three to four hours a day and eating 5 times day; every three hours,” he said.

Wilson begins his workout at 5 a.m. at Dave’s Fitness with one hour of cardiovascular training.
