McALESTER —
A McAlester church has been sold and the new owners say they have “Grand” plans for the building.
Escrow closed Jan. 29 on the sale of the First Methodist Church to D & E Bistro, LLC. owned by McAlester business owners David Smith and Eddie Gray.
Gray said plans are to rename the building “The Grand” and will include a restaurant and a venue for weddings, parties and office rental space will be also available.
Plans to open the restaurant by late spring are in the works, according to the new owners.
The name of the new restaurant will be Union Jack’s and it “will have a British flair,” Gray said, with British themed menu choices such as fish and chips.
Besides their latest acquisition, Smith and Gray own the Whistle Stop Bistro, and several other McAlester properties.
Meanwhile Gray said he’s already booked reservations for weddings and parties without advertising, “it’s all been from word of mouth.”
