Moore graduates with Doctorate

McALESTER — Wes Corey Moore, formerly of McAlester, recently graduated from the University of North Texas-Denton with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree. He is the son of Dawn L. Moore, of McAlester, and the late Tom. W. Moore.

He graduated from McAlester High School and attended Oklahoma State University for two years prior to transferring to Oklahoma Baptist University, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in music. He received his Master’s degree in vocal performance from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Following this, he performed professionally in opera and in symphony concerts throughout the southwestern United States and Florida.

Currently, he serves as Associate Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Chair of the Department of Music at Dallas Baptist University. As part of these duties, he is active with the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) where he serves as an on-site accreditation visitor to colleges and conservatories nationwide. He has had the honor of returning to McAlester recently on two occasions as a soloist in Handel’s “Messiah” with the McAlester Community Chorus.

He lives in Garland, Texas, with his wife, Melanie Craighead Moore, the Artistic Director of the Richardson-based Contemporary Chorale, and daughter, Zoe Maree. They are members of the Big Springs Baptist Church.
