McALESTER — Erby Webb celebrated his 100th birthday at Walnut Grove Living Center on Nov. 15, 2011. He was born Nov. 15, 1911, in Harrison, Ark., to John Carrell and Julia Casey Webb. He grew up and attended school in Western Grove, Ark.

As a young man, he and his family moved to a farm south of McAlester, where the Army Ammunition Plant is now located. He attended Haywood High School and married Hildred Mae Smith on Dec. 7, 1938, in Haywood.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served prior to World War II. He later received an honorable discharge.

Visiting with his many friends, while reading the newspapers at the coffee shop, brought Webb much pleasure to his life. In his earlier years, he enjoyed fishing and watching all sports on the television.
