Leroy and Betty (Smith) Weeks, of McAlester, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Oct. 13. They were married on Oct. 13, 1949, at the Pittsburg County Courthouse by Justice of the Peace W.E. Kelley. Witnesses were Mrs. M.L. Misenheimer and Mrs. Billie Napier.
After their wedding, the couple lived and farmed in the Indianola area until moving to McAlester in 1953. Leroy Weeks retired from Shipley’s Holsum Bakery and then worked for McAlester Public Schools as a janitor at William Gay Elementary. Betty Weeks worked for many years at Gibson’s Discount Center. After it closed, she worked at Ben Franklin’s and the Salvation Army Thrift Store.
The Weeks have three children: Mike Weeks and David Weeks, McAlester; and Terry Weeks and his wife, Tammy, of Dearborn Heights, Mich.
They have five grandchildren: Matt Weeks and his wife, Tabatha, McAlester; Josh Weeks and his wife, Tosha, Paris, Texas; Nicole Weeks, Belleville, Mich.; and Danielle and Elizabeth Weeks, Dearborn Heights, Mich.
They also have one great-granddaughter, Baylee Marie Weeks, McAlester.
The Weeks are members of the First Freewill Baptist Church in McAlester, where Leroy serves as a retired deacon.
Due to health concerns, a reception will be planned at a later date.
