Ronald Mathiews

McALESTER — Ronald Mathiews, 75, of McAlester, died Saturday, Jan. 26, in McAlester.

A family and friends visitation is set from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Funeral services are set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel in McAlester, with John Krueger officiating, Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Mathiews was born Dec. 23, 1937, to his parents Bolin Bartley and Sestos Beulah (Srum) Mathiews at Lynnwood, Okla. He was raised in the Lynnwood and Gowen communities and graduated from Wilburton High School in 1955. He was married to Nena Ann Satoris on August 22, 1959 at Gowen. They resided in the area for a short time. His career moved the family over time to many southeast Oklahoma towns as he worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a soil conservation technician. His last assignment was in Eufaula, where he lived for 20 years. He retired in 1993 and moved to McAlester in 1994. He also served a 10-year enlistment in the Oklahoma National Guard. He was a bluegrass guitarist and he and his family performed as a group for 10 years. He also hosted a bluegrass show on the local radio stations in McAlester and Eufaula. He was an active member of the Philadelphia Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Nena Mathiews, of the home; three daughters, Chris Deanne Anderson, of Okmulgee, Sandra Annette Roberts, of McAlester, and Deborah Kay Sibala, of Tulsa; five grandchildren, Jessica LeighAnn Roberts, of Tulsa; Johnny Lee Anderson III, of Okmulgee; Zachary Hunter Roberts, of Tulsa; Brandon Mathiew Sibala, of Tulsa, and Joshua Tyler Sibala, of Tulsa, and a great-grandson, Daxton Lee Anderson, of Okmulgee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, John David Mathiews
