Sandra Kay ‘Sandy’ McClintic

McALESTER — Sandra Kay “Sandy” McClintic, 56, of McAlester, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at Wellington Hills Nursing Center in Eufaula.

Memorial services were Thursday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Kenny Sherrill officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell, Neb. Arrangements were under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born March 31, 1956, in Burwell Hospital in Nebraska, she was the youngest child of Clarence Floyd and Arlene Anneta (Alloway) McClintic. She was born with a disability and spent most of her young life in the Nebraska Orthopedic Hospital for Children in Lincoln, Neb. She attended school in Burwell and Missouri until moving to live with a cousin in Blytheville, Ark., where she graduated from high school.

She later moved to Altus to live with her sister. Later she moved to Hartshorne and finally to McAlester, living at the Plaza Apartments. Her main interest was the Special Olympics, and she was a volunteer with Oklahomans for Independent Living.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she enjoyed helping with vacation bible school. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting and embroidering. She made all types of baby blankets, crocheted large blankets and enjoyed entering craft shows.

Survivors include a sister, Shirley Wood and husband, Brady, of Hartshorne; her sons, Michael and Freddie Wood, of Hartshorne, and her daughter, Tammy White and husband, Vince, of Caney; brothers, Robert McClintic and wife, Donna Jean (DJ), Tipton, Mo.; his daughters, Joy Lynn Busch, Tipton; Mandy People, Tipton; Walter McClintic, Burwell; Floyd McClintic, Burwell; Harold McClintic and wife, Sandra Rose, Holbrook, Neb.; his daughters, Megan Sconcken and husband, Jeremy, Lincoln; and Andrea Naylor and husband, Brandon, Kearney, Neb.; special adopted sister, Terry Dunn, of McAlester; uncle, Lyle Alloway and wife, Ruth, Burwell; aunt, Ardath Kusek, Burwell; sister-in-law, Dianna Boyd, Ontario, Calif.; special friends, Henry Grimes, of McAlester, and Kenny and Linda Sherrill, of McAlester, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; uncles, Ralph, and Walter McClintic and his wife; a half brother, Gary Boyd, and her grandparents.
