Campbell W. Gore

McALESTER — Campbell W. Gore, 95, of McAlester, died Nov. 8, 2012, at Solara Hospital in Muskogee.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Krebs. The Revs. David Stanfield and Ed Garrett will officiate. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brumely-Mills Funeral Home.

He was born Sept. 9, 1917, at Elsie, Mississippi to Thomas S. and Martha Louella (Watson) Gore.

His family moved to Arkansas when he was two and later to Oklahoma where he attended school near Ardmore. He married Ruth Gladys (Hammond) Ulrich in 1942. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

He flew 39 Missions as pilot of B26 Bombers in the European Theater during World War II and flew B29 in-flight refueling tankers stateside during the Korean War. He lost Ruth to a heart attack, and married Darlene Barker Woolever on June 10, 1972, in McAlester.

He worked as an automobile body shop mechanic before joining the FAA in 1959 as a Flight Service Specialist. He was very active and exercised daily, enjoyed people, flying, motorcycle riding, bowling, camping, traveling and swimming. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Indian Nation Good Sam’s RV Club. He was also a past Commander of the American Legion Post No. 79 in McAlester.

He was survived by his wife, Darlene Gore, of the home; children and spouses, Gary and Mary Jane Gore, of McAlester, James and Barbara Gore, of San Angelo, Texas; stepchildren and spouses, Charles Woolever, of Ponca City, Richard and Becky Woolever, of Lewisville, Sue and David Dukesherer, of Oklahoma City; grandchildren and spouses, Carolyn Gore, of San Angelo, Texas; Kimberly and Troy Speaks, of Fredonia, Kan., Richard and Shanna Gore, of Broken Arrow, Phillip A. and Elaine Gore, of Driftwood, Texas, Alisa Baker, of Houston, Texas, Lindsay Woolever, of Bartlesville, Vanessa and Brandon Hayes, of Lewisville, Texas, Brandon Woolever, of Lewisville, Scotty Pennington, of Oklahoma City, Teddy and Kelly Pennington, of Del City, Melissa McCauley, of Oklahoma City; 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Ruth, three brothers, one sister, one infant grandchild and a special nephew that was like a son, Charles S. Gore.

Pallbearers are Brian Speaks, Brandon Speaks, Austin Gore, Christopher Speaks, Adam Speaks and Brody Gore.
