David Ellis Collier

McALESTER — David Ellis Collier, 60, of McAlester, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at a local nursing home.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Dr. Tim Russell officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born July 8, 1952, in Fort Smith, Ark., he was the son of Felix and Maizie (Feemster) Collier. He grew up in Fort Smith, attended Fort Smith Public Schools and graduated from Northside High School where he was a drum major for two years in the high school band.

He attended the University of Arkansas in Fort Smith, Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Ark. and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

Upon graduating from Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C., with a master of divinity degree, he attended the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine where he received his bachelor of science degree as a physicians associate.

He was ordained to the ministry at Nichols Hills Baptist Church in Oklahoma City and served on church staffs in Arkansas, Oklahoma and North Carolina.

He worked as a physician’s associate for the Oklahoma State Veterans Administration in Ardmore and Sulphur, retiring in 2011 due to his illness.

Survivors include his sister, Sharron Lenington and husband, Paul, of McAlester; brother, Garland Collier and wife, Susan, Fort Worth; nephew, David Lenington and wife, Lori, Sanger, Texas, Mark Lenington and wife, Becky, of Norman, and Donny Lenington and wife, Stephanie, of McAlester.

Also, great-nephews, Tyler Lenington, Jacob Lenington and Nicholas Lenington; great-nieces, Micaela Lenington, Amber Lenington and Amy Lenington, and numerous cousins, colleagues and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Felix Collier, and mother, Maizie Collier.
