Peggy JoAnn (Grose) Van Hoozer dies at 89

McALESTER — Peggy JoAnn (Grose) Van Hoozer, 89, of McAlester, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at a local nursing center.

The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bishop Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. James Crowson officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in McAlester. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born Jan. 27, 1923, in Valliant, she was the daughter of Ernest Haven and Nancy Osterdock Grose. She married W.R. Coxsey on April 27, 1937, in Fort Towson, and they made their home in McAlester.

She worked as a sales representative for Olen Mills, Mann’s Flower Shop and Giacomo’s Paint and Sign. Later, she retired as the sporting goods manager for Gibson’s Department Store.

She later married William M. Van Hoozer on Sept. 11, 1972, in Bentonville, Ark., he and preceded her in death on April 9, 1997.

She was a member of Grand Avenue United Methodist Church. She was an artist and loved to paint Indians and barns. She also enjoyed going fishing.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, James R. and Phyllis Coxsey, of Quinton, David and Jerri Coxsey, of Oklahoma City, and Mike and Margie Coxsey, of McAlester.

Also, daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Richard Beams, of Blanco, Marcella Coxsey, of McAlester, Robyn and Donnie Dixon, of Bache, Cindy and Charlie Patty, of Kellyville, and Sandy and Jim Gaylor, of High Hill.

And, 27 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 35 great-great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mignon Perry, Nice, Calif.

She was preceded also in death by her parents, Ernest and Nancy Grose; a sister, Dorothy McDaniels, and a grandson, Buddy Coxsey.

Pallbearers will be Chris Gaylor, Buzzy Dixon, Leroy Patty, Phillip Coxsey, Johnny Snow and Larry Coxsey.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Barrier, Bobby Dail, Mitch Francis, Kevin Gaylor, Rick Beams, Randy Beams, Michael Coxsey, Kevin Gaylor and Eddie Snow.
