McALESTER — Marcia Mary Layden, 57, of Krebs, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at her home.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Calvary Cemetery with Father Jim Caldwell officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born Oct. 8, 1955, in Chicago, she was the daughter of Robert and Yvonne (Demoss) Layden. She came to McAlester with her family at a young age and had lived here ever since.

She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and had attended St. John’s Catholic School until it closed and then went to McAlester schools, graduating from McAlester High School in 1973. She then attended Northeaster State University in Tahlequah, receiving an associate degree.

She worked as a secretary for Dr. Ron Sather and then worked as a home health aid. She enjoyed riding horses, and she bred and raised German Shepherds, known as some of the best in the area. She was also a big Notre Dame football fan.

Survivors include three sons, Matthew Vermillion, of Krebs, Marcus Vermillion, of Krebs, and Carter Don Haskins, of Wilburton; two grandchildren, Holli and Mattie Vermillion; brothers and sisters, Bobby Layden, Yvonne Layden, of Tulsa, Pat Layden and his wife, Kim, of McAlester, and Sheila Layden, of Kansas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Johnny Layden.
