Warren Lindley

Warren Lindley, 57, of Hartshorne

McALESTER — Warren Lindley, 57, of Hartshorne, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at McAlester Regional Health Center.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hartshorne Elementary School Activity Center with Dr. Jim Utterback, Wes Brown, Ken Heupel and David Mass officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Hartshorne. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of Hartshorne.

Born Aug. 25, 1953, in Ada, he was the son of Warren Elvin and Wanda (Bryant) Lindley. He grew up farming in Calvin and Stuart and graduated from Stuart High School in 1971.

He married Clidia Guinn on Aug. 25, 1973, in Haywood. He started working in the grocery business in Stuart for Sam Rambo at Sam’s Grocery.

He later went to college in Ada and worked at Safeway for Garland Nichols and later became manager at the Safeway store in Midwest City. While in Midwest City he read about a grocery store for sale in Hartshorne. He and his wife bought the Hartshorne Market in 1979, later renaming it Lindley’s Grocery, and have operated the store since then. He was also a part of Misty Valley/Blue Valley Water Company, and had interest in many other business ventures in Hartshorne and the surrounding area.

He also loved to ranch and believed in hard work and hard play. He always found time to play and spend quality time with his grandchildren, which included four wheeler rides that required numerous cookie breaks and scenic views, where large amounts of sugar and caffeine were provided before returning the kids to their parents.

He loved Oklahoma University sports, traveling and eating a good steak. They also enjoyed spending time in Branson, Mo. with their kids and grandkids.

He also relished his trips to Colorado with some of his best friends for golf and elk hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Clidia Lindley, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Sassy Lindley, of Seminole, and Jason and Kristi Lindley, of Hartshorne; one daughter and son-in-law, Kari and Bryce Lawson, of Edmond.

Also, grandchildren, Tyler, Blake, Holli and Brett Lindley, Carter and Lydia Lawson and Crewe and Savanna Lindley; his father, Elvin Lindley, of Stuart.

And, one brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Renea Lindley, of Piedmont; one sister and brother-in-law, Becky and Robert Carlton, of Atwood; mother-in-law, Priscilla Guinn, of McAlester.

And, brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry Shackleford, of McAlester, and Carolyn and Johnny Benedict, of Coalgate, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Pallbearers will be Mike Williams, H.L. Dollins, Wes Brown, Dr. Jim Utterback, Dan Boren and Richard Lerblance.

Honorary pallbearers will be Pete Vinzetta, Billy Ray Ziverk, Carl Voss, Ken Bass, Garland Nichols, Tracy Adams, Jimmy Russell, Mike Russell, Larry Morgan, Roi Nelson and Lee Morgan.

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice.
