Everett Lee (Muggs) Gibson

McALESTER — Everett Lee (Muggs) Gibson, our beloved father, went to be with our Lord on Oct. 30, 2012, after a short battle with leukemia. His wife and children were by his side.

Everett was born on November 25, 1939 at Featherston, OK., to Tressa Wallace Gibson and Noel Douglas Gibson. He attended Blocker School through the 8th grade and went on to graduate from Crowder High School in 1957.

On May 16, 1960, he married the love of his life, Juanita Mae Noble. Shortly afterward, they moved to Oklahoma City, where he worked for Meadow Gold Ice Cream.  In 1965, Everett and Juanita returned to the Blocker area, where they built a home and raised their two sons and one daughter. On their farm they raised Chester White hogs, quarter horses, and later Shorthorn and Red Angus cattle.  Everett worked for the Oklahoma State Penitentiary, later Pepsi Cola of McAlester, and Oxley Petroleum, where he retired in 2003 as production supervisor. Finally, Everett enjoyed a number of years after retirement as a full-time rancher, raising cattle. He loved working with students who showed cattle and building a breeding program.

Everett's early interests were coon-hunting, fishing, and bird hunting. He also enjoyed team-roping with his son, John. His later hobbies encompassed the varied interests of his 8 grandchildren, including showing cattle, music, basketball, soccer, football, and cheerleading. Among his greatest joys in the past year were seeing his granddaughter, Erin, play on the state championship basketball team from Stidham,  where she was selected as MVP, and seeing  his grandson, Gabe, get to show his calf at the Western Nat'l Stock show in Denver, winning Grand Champion Red Angus Heifer.

Everett was a long-time member of Blocker Baptist Church, where he especially loved dinner day. He was a devoted husband, loving father, an involved and proud grandparent, and a beloved member of the community.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Tressa and Noel Douglas Gibson, his step-father, Walter Noble Sr., and 4 step-brothers, Bill Noble, Lloyd Noble, Walter Noble Jr., and Frank Noble.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Gibson of Blocker, his three children, John and DiAnn Gibson of Featherston, Roger and Tonya Gibson of Blocker, and Angela and Derek Gray of Eufaula. Eight grandchildren including Keenan Gibson and Tiffany of Blocker, Kendall Gibson, Dalon Gibson, and Gabriel Gibson all of Blocker, Erin Gray, Noah Gray, Eden Gray, and Lauren Gray, all of Eufaula. Three great grandchildren, Tayte Gibson, Shaylee Berryhill, and Briar Purdom. One brother, John Harold and Tommie Gibson, of Henryetta, a step-sister, Maxine and Pat Reamy of Blocker, a step-brother, Dr. Don and Helen Noble of Ada and three sisters-in-law,  Bonnie Noble, of OKC, LouVine Brooks of Okmulgee, and Lottie Noble of OKC. One aunt, Ellen and Rudolph Ogden of Featherston, and one uncle, W.C. and Montice Wallace of Haywood. Special friends, his cow-feeding buddy, Fred Morgan of Blocker, Alan Elwell, “storekeep” of Blocker store, and Gail Howell and Angie Heaslet of the Diamond Cafe in Crowder.

Services will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 10 A.M. at Brumley-Mills Chapel, followed by burial at Featherston Cemetery.  John Shirley and Randall Pearce will officiate, with music by The Alversons.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Ogden, Randy Thompson, Dr. Kenny Noble, Joe Noble, Gary Cloud, and Bill Krason. Honorary Pallbearers are Kenneth Smith, Charlie Newman, A.J. Bristow, Fred Morgan, Bobby Gray, Jimmy Allen, Dennis Mason, Joe Reynolds, Billy Noble, and Tim Nixon Sr.
