David Wayne Lynch

McALESTER — David Wayne Lynch, 61, of Tulsa, died Monday, July 16, 2012, at his home.

Following cremation, a private family committal service will be held at the A. J. Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy at a later date.  

Arrangements are under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.

Born Dec. 15, 1950, in McAlester, he was the son of J.D. and Beulah Marie (Brannon) Lynch. He was raised and attended school in Hartshorne, graduating from Hartshorne High School in 1968.

Upon completion of his high school education, he attended a welding school in Tulsa and, after completion, was employed as a fabrication welder in a shop in Owasso for a few years.

His desire to continue his education led him to attending the University of Tulsa, where be obtained both his bachelor and master’s degree in history and education. After becoming a certified teacher with the state of Oklahoma, he initially accepted a position with Liberty Mounds High School as a history teacher. He was later employed by Okmulgee Public Schools as a high school history teacher and assistant coach. After several years in Okmulgee, he moved to Tulsa, where he taught in a Tulsa high school for a few more years before being medically retired. He had a passion for sports and enjoyed watching all sports, especially the University of Oklahoma Sooners and the University of Tulsa Golden Hurricane football.

Survivors include his daughter and her husband, Sarah Kristine and Michael Van Leer, of Tulsa; grandson, Axton Drake Van Lee, of Tulsa; two sisters, Janice and her husband, John Carletti, of Sapulpa, and Sandi Wheeler, Springdale, Ark.; brother, John and his wife, Carolyn Lynch, of Tulsa; nephew, Todd Lynch, of Tulsa, and numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. Lynch and Beulah Marie Lynch, and a sister, Louise Giannini.
